Tips or Saving Money on Musical Instrument Maintenance

Instrument maintenance can be
expensive, but the good news is that your instrument’s maintenance needs can be
reduced if the conditions of keeping are suitable. Here are a few things to pay
attention to:

  • -Protection against dust
    and dirt – if your instrument has a case, keep it in the case whenever you are
    not playing it. If possible, use double casing, a softer, interior case and a
    sturdier external one;
  • -Humidity – both excess
    moisture in the air and air that is too dry can ruin your instrument, so make
    sure that the humidity in the room where you keep your instrument is right, not
    too high, but not too low either;
  • -Sunshine – exposure to
    harsh sunshine is also very harmful for musical instruments, so make sure you
    don’t expose yours to harsh, direct solar radiation;
  • -Temperature variations
    – excessive heat, excessively low temperatures and quick temperature changes
    are also to be avoided;
  • -Transport the
    instrument in safety – instruments are sensitive to impact, so make sure that
    yours does not get damaged during transport;
  • -Handle your instrument
    with clean hands – musical instruments don’t like dirt either, so make sure
    your hands are clean whenever you handle them.

Check with local musical retailers for additional information on how to keep your kettledrum timpani in good condition.

Ways to Make Money by Playing A Musical Instrument

The best way to make money playing
music is, of course, to be a world-famous player who gets played a fortune for
each concert, but if that seems to be out of reach (yet), you must know that
there are other ways to make money as a musician. Here are some:

  • -Busking – playing in
    the street is a great way to improve your playing skills, to become a better
    performer and to make some money, too. Don’t expect to make a fortune out of
    playing in your town’s main street, but it will increase your chances of
    getting noticed;
  • -Playing at parties –
    wedding receptions and birthday parties are great examples, all you need is a
    suitable repertoire and some advertising;
  • -Create your own music
    and sell it – make your music available through various platforms, including
    social media and also try to approach record labels that specialize in the
    style of music that you play;
  • -Play in pubs or bars –
    don’t expect too much money to come out of these gigs in the beginning, but if
    the audience likes your music, you will get more and more opportunities to play
    and money will eventually start coming, too.
  • Look for quality marimba online percussion instruments and start your musical journey.

How to Tell If You’re Playing A Musical Instrument the Right Way

Teaching yourself to play a musical
instrument is probably the most difficult way – even though you have the
benefit that you can learn to play at your own pace, the lack of control makes
the process difficult. If you have been learning to play the drums on a specialized drum kit or instrument on your
own and you think you can do with some feedback, here are some tips for you:

  • -Record yourself – you
    might feel embarrassed to listen to your own playing in the beginning, but
    recording your playing is actually among the most efficient ways to get
    objective feedback – from yourself. Record your play, listen to it over and
    over again and try to compare it to the original version that you used for
    inspiration, you will learn a lot about your own style and about your mistakes
    as well;
  • -Read theory about
    posture and playing techniques – books are a great source of information about
    how to stand or sit correctly while playing, about how the instrument makes
    sound, about correct playing and about different playing styles, so books can
    help you identify your mistakes and correct them, too;
  • -Use online tutorials –
    with a little bit of self-criticism, you will be able to tell whether you are
    playing the instrument right.

How to Get Started as A Street Musician

Are you thinking of testing your
skill and talent as a street musician, busking in a busy main street, but you
have no idea how and where to start? Here are some tips for you:

  • -Get a license – running
    away from the cops because you have been playing without a license is not great
    fun at all and it might also cost you a lot, so get a license before you even
    start looking for a place to play at;
  • -Look for organized
    events – town halls, city councils and non-profit organizations often host
    busking events for charitable causes. The events might not bring you too much
    money, but they are great for networking and for making new friends;
  • -Put together a varied
    repertoire – playing the same 5 or 10 songs over and over again is boring for
    you as well as for your audience, so try to diversify your repertoire and to
    add new songs all the time;
  • -Don’t be afraid to
    improvise – improvisation might be one of the most difficult things to do for a
    musician, but it is an excellent way to experiment and to own the songs that
    you play, so it is a good idea to try it.

My Music Supply offers excellent musical services and instruments. Let them help you jump start your busking career.

Signs You Might Need to Repair Your Musical Instrument

Musical instruments are sensitive
items that react not only to the impact caused by the playing process, but to
other external factors, such as the humidity in the air, the temperature in the
room where they are kept or to the dust settling on them if they are not placed
back into their casing or covered when not used. To be able to perform well,
musical instruments need to be maintained regularly and handled with lots of
care, but even if they are taken excellent care of, they might need repairs
occasionally. Here are some signs that tell you it is time for a repair:

  • -You have not used the
    instrument for a long time and now it doesn’t sound as it used to – maybe all
    that the instrument needs is some tuning, maybe the problem is more serious, so
    the best solution is to take the instrument to a repair shop or to call an instrument or drum set repair expert;
  • -You see cracks on the
    instrument – no instrument can function well with cracked components, so if you
    notice any cracks, it is a sure sign that a repair intervention is necessary;
  • -Missing components – no
    instrument can be used if it has missing parts, so if this is the problem you
    notice, start looking for a repair specialist.

Drum Hardware Commonly Needed for a Drum Set

You cannot buy a drum set for a good price unless you know
exactly what you need. Not all products are standard. Generally, such a set
contains the following common hardware:

Pads (if it’s a
digital set). These are the surfaces on which the sound is emitted.

Drums – can be of
various sizes. The most common are the big drums, the small drums and the tom-tom
drums.

Cymbals – are
those discs that emit different sounds. Each one produces its unique sound, so
the more they are in a percussion set, the more tones can be produced. There
are several types of cymbals; here are the most popular:

  • •Crash cymbal – it produces strong sounds and is generally
    used at the end of songs
  • •Ride cymbal – it is quite large and produces a
    versatile sound, being used to keep the rhythm
  • •Splash cymbal – it has a sharp and thin sound,
    helping the player to create special effects

Accessories – they
improve the player`s experience, being essential objects in drumming. The most
common are the following products: chairs (required for the comfort and safety of
the player),drum sticks, tuners, as well
as support elements for the drums. You can find all these drums and accessories at My Music Supply!

 Why Buying a Drumset is a Great Investment

kids drum set

Drums are an instrument suitable for adults and children
alike and here is what makes it a great investment.

Everybody can play
drums

You do not need unusual physical abilities. You do not need
to know musical theory. Percussion is based on rhythm, which is a universal
language. It transcends sex, race, age etc. In fact, almost every culture on
earth has a form of drum tradition.

Playing drums reduces
stress, helps the immune system and encourages self-expression

When playing drums, you express your emotions, your personality,
you belong to a group – it really is like being a painter who puts his/ her
feelings on a piece of paper. Self-expression is a form of therapy that
relieves you from stress.

Playing drums helps you
connect with yourself and with other people

Playing drums in a group creates a sense of community and
strong common experiences.

It helps us connect
to the natural rhythms, to everything that surrounds us

The rhythm is all around us. The sun, the moon and the
seasons follow regular rhythms… Our bodies have natural rhythms, they are a
part of who we are.

Playing drums is fun

Of course, it can be very difficult at first, but once you
become better, playing drums will become more and more fun and may open up many
opportunities that will change the way you live your life.

Most Popular Percussion Instrument

percussion instruments at My Music Supply

Percussion instruments date back to the beginnings of the
human species. Primitive people were those who discovered the rhythm and began
to use drums and tambourines (for various rituals, for communication as well as
for entertainment).

One of the most popular percussion instruments for beginners
is the well-known cajon. This
percussion box mimics the sound of the bass drum (if it is being hit in the
middle) and the small drum (if it is being hit on the edges). This instrument
can be used to play most musical styles, and a beginner can learn to use it
relatively quickly. Contact My Music Supply for inventory and lesson availability.

Other very popular percussion instruments:

Djembes drums

Djembes drums are arguably is the most notorious type of
percussion instruments. It originates from Central-West Africa. They have the
shape of cups and most of them are carved from a single piece of wood (although
nowadays there are also composite djembes available on the market).

Conga drums

They originate in the African culture, but have developed
very much in Latin America – under the influence of the synthesis of African
and Spanish cultures. Conga drums are usually used in pairs – two drums on the
same support. These are quite high drums – the upper and lower sides are
narrower and they are bulging in the middle.

Bongo drums

They come from central America (Cuba). Bongo drums consist
of a pair of rather small drums. They are played using the fingertips, which
makes them ideal for children.

Top Brands in Percussion

drum kits for sale

If you want to learn playing drums, or if you know already it
but you want to change your percussion set, it is good to know a bit about the brands before searching for the best drum kits for sale. If time does not allow you to search for as much information as
possible, at least look for reviews and online rankings.

The most recommended
model in 2019 was the Yamaha DTX-522K.

Without a doubt, from Yamaha you can buy the best percussion
sets. The Yamaha DTX-522K has digital elements, which makes it a great choice
for adults interested in purchasing silent and modern tools to practice without
disturbing their neighbors.

This package contains quality pads that will allow you to
try out all kind of musical compositions: the small XP80 drum, the KP65 large
drum, the PCY100 hi-hat cymbal, and two tom-tom drums TP70. The entire assembly
stretches over an area of approximately 100 x 110 cm. Unfortunately, the
package does not contain sticks and pedals for the big drum, so you will have
to purchase them separately.

Being a digital model, we’re also interested in its
functions. The most useful are: the metronome (from 30 to 300 bpm), the tempo
tap, the connection to the PC with a USB cable and the use of headphones. There
are also applications that you can use to learn playing and practice the Yamaha
DTX-522K. These drums are black and have a generally pleasant aspect that fits
easily into any space.
